Google Pixel and Pixel smartphones have officially been announced by the search giant at an event in San Francisco. These are first smartphones made entirely by Google, which means the company has worked on its hardware as well as software. Also, the smartphones ate company’s first devices to come with Google Assistant built-in, which can can be launched simply by tapping the home button. Google also announced Google Home, Google WiFi router, 4K Chromecast Ultra and Daydream VR headset at the event. Google Home, which is Google’s answer to Amazon Alexa, will come with Google Assistant as well.
According to Google, its new smartphones are built on five pillars – Google Assistant, Photography, Storage, Communications and Virtual reality. Google Pixel and Pixel come with a new Pixel launcher, which has a rounded home button for cleaner look. Plus, Google has done away with the Search bar at the top for Pixel and Pixel XL.
Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones feature an aluminum unibody design with polished glass combination. The smartphones come with a similar specs sheet except for a different screen size and different battery capacities. Pixel has a 5-inch full HD display; while Pixel XL gets a 5.5-inch Quad HD screen. Google’s new smartphones are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 32GB storage (expandable up to 128GB via microSD card).

The primary camera on Pixel and Pixel XL is 12.3MP with large 1.55 micron pixels and f/2.0 aperture. There’s Smartburst feature which clicks multiple images at once and suggests the best. The camera supports OIS and 4K video recording. Google Pixel and Pixel XL come with Pixel imprint fingerprint sensor support and USB-C port. Pixel gets a 2,770 mAh battery while Pixel XL gets a bigger 3,450 mAh battery. There’s 3.5mm headphone jack as well.
Google’s new smartphones start at $649 in the US and Rs 57,000 in India. The pre-orders will begin on Flipkart starting October 13 in India. Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones will be available in Black, Silver and limited edition Blue colour variant.
Google Chromecast Ultra is priced at $69. The Chromecast Ultra comes with a free subscription of YouTube Red for users in the US for the first six months.

Next up is Google’ new WiFi router which is simply called ‘Google WiFi’. The Google Wifi is quite similar to Eero. The device will be modular, allowing users to add components to it. It is available at $130 and a three-pack for larger homes will cost about $300.

Google, at the event, announced its first Daydream compatible VR headset as well. The device is called ‘Daydream View’ and is available in three colour variants. It comes with a separate motion controller and will be compatible with a wide array of smartphones when OEMs start supporting Daydream by default with Android 7.1 Nougat. Google’s Daydream platform apps and games from 50 different partners. Google is bringing its services such as photos, YouTube and Street View maps to Daydream as well. Google’s ‘Daydream View’ VR headset will be out in November for $79.
Google Home is a new range of personal assistant-based speaker to take on Amazon’s Alexa. Google Home comes with Google Assistant built-in.
